Case 1: A 50 y/o female presents to the ED after using a traditional remedy to treat gastrointestinal symptoms. Shortly after ingestion, she developed chest pain, lightheadedness, hallucinations, and low blood pressure. Presented by: Michael Moss, MD, Medical Director, Utah Poison Control Center
Case 2: A 51 y/o male with a history of depression presented to a local emergency department with hypertension, tachycardia, headache, and a sense of impending doom a few hours after starting a new medication. Presented by: Daniel Laub, MD, Medical Toxicology Fellow, George Washington University

Michael J. Moss, MD

Dr. Michael Moss is triple board-certified in Medical Toxicology, Addiction Medicine, and Emergency Medicine. He serves as the Medical Director of the Utah Poison Control Center, where he oversees training for a wide range of learners, including pharmacy students, pharmacy residents, and medical residents from multiple specialties. Dr. Moss provides inpatient toxicology consultations at both the University of Utah Hospital and Primary Children's Hospital, and he also practices clinically in the University of Utah Emergency Department. In addition to his work in toxicology, he offers inpatient consultations in addiction medicine, managing cases related to opioid use disorder, medication-assisted treatment, alcohol withdrawal, and more.

Dr. Emily Kiernan is an Assistant Professor at Emory University School of Medicine. She is a board-certified Emergency Medicine physician who recently completed a medical toxicology fellowship at Emory University/CDC. She has served as the fellow co-chair for the AACT Radiation Special Interest Section group as well as a chair in the ACMT Fellow-in-training association.
