A Discussion of Pediatric Cannabis Ingestions and a Case Involving a Patient Admitted to a Research Unit

Case 1: Beyond Colorado - discussion of pediatric cannabis ingestions trends and clinical presentation
Case 2: An Alcohol Use Disorder (AUD) inpatient study participant develops altered mental status the week after admission to the locked clinical research unit. 

Learner Objectives:

  1. Review the current emerging literature investigating pediatric cannabis exposure, including risk factors for severe outcomes, differences between inhalational and edible exposure, and signs and symptoms of exposure in pediatric patients. 
  2. Consider the management and workup of pediatric patients exposed to cannabis.
  3. Discuss the possibility of a cannabis withdrawal state and next steps for investigating this phenomenon.
