Decontamination by Gastroscopy
Join ACMT on Tuesday, August 11, 2026, at 12 pm ET for an exclusive National Grand Rounds session featuring Dr. Tyden Jonas. This session will explore the use of gastroscopy for gastrointestinal decontamination following overdose. Participants will review the theoretical background supporting gastroscopy as a decontamination strategy, examine the potential downsides and limitations of the procedure, and discuss why the number of retrieved tablets may not be an appropriate endpoint for evaluating its effectiveness. The presentation will provide an opportunity to consider the evolving role of gastroscopy in toxicologic decontamination and its implications for clinical practice.
Learning Objective
1. What is the theoretical background for considering gastroscopy for gastrointestinal decontamination in overdoses?
2. What are the potential downsides of gastroscopy for decontamination?
3. Why is number of retrieved tablets not a good endpoint when looking at the effectiveness of gastroscopy?
About The Series: ACMT's Grand Rounds offer an in-depth and interactive platform for learning and discussion about issues that impact the research and practice of medical toxicology. Experts from within and outside medical toxicology will share their knowledge and experience and highlight areas for collaboration and mutual understanding.
This webinar is for ACMT members only.
