Activity Overview
This course provides physicians, advanced care practitioners, students, and nurses with an approach to managing a patient with cardiac glycoside toxicity. Upon completion of this course, learners will be able to effectively assess, diagnose, and treat patients presenting with cardiac glycoside toxicity in accordance with established guidelines and best practices covered in the course material.
This course is divided into the following lessons to help you properly manage patients with cardiac glycoside toxicity in the Emergency Department. Please consider the estimated time required noted below, and plan accordingly to complete each lesson:

Course Syllabus
Lesson 1: Introduction
(Estimated time required: 2 minutes)
Lesson 1 overviews the course and provides a menu of lessons from which to choose.
Lesson 2: Assessment
(Estimated time required: 20 minutes)
Lesson 2 reviews the standard assessment process, highlighting critical points for proper assessment in cases of cardiac glycoside toxicity.
Lesson 3: Diagnosis
(Estimated time required: 25 minutes)
Lesson 3 focuses on the diagnostic measures required to properly diagnose cardiac glycoside toxicity.
Lesson 4: Treatment
(Estimated time required: 15 minutes)
Lesson 4 presents the guidelines for selecting treatment and calculating dose, depending on case scenario.
Lesson 5: Practice
(Estimated time required: 20 minutes)
Lesson 5 allows the learner to practice applying all of the decision-making guidelines (learned in previous lessons) to two cases.
Charlotte Goldfine
Medical Toxicologist
Brigham and Women's Hospital
Charlotte Goldfine, MD is an emergency medicine physician and medical toxicologist at Brigham and Women’s Hospital (BWH). She is the course director for the Harvard-Affiliated Emergency Medicine Residency toxicology core rotation and the BWH site fellowship director for the Harvard Toxicology Fellowship. Her research is focused on medication safety, medical education, and advances in digital health technologies, novel therapeutics, and drug-delivery systems in the treatment of substance use disorders.
