The goal of this activity is to enhance the knowledge of physicians and other healthcare providers about the potential sources and health impacts of carbon monoxide during pregnancy. This module will discuss the common sources of carbon monoxide and at-risk populations. The module will then identify health effects of carbon monoxide exposure, methods of treatment, and recommendations to reduce exposure. Lastly, there are case studies and recommendations for risk reduction.

Learning Objectives
  • Identify three common sources of carbon monoxide
  • Describe two populations most at risk for carbon monoxide poisoning
  • Identify three effects of carbon monoxide poisoning
  • Identify two appropriate methods for treatment of carbon monoxide poisoning
  • Recognize three patients’ risk for carbon monoxide exposure
  • Identify two appropriate methods for detecting and preventing carbon monoxide exposure
